FINISSAGE: Saturday, January 28th 2017, 6 – 10 pm

Art von Frei Gallery cordially invites to the Solo Exhibition of Geet Robert Chorley. In his spectacular metal light sculptures the English-German artist refers to nature and energy but also to other artists and epochs. In his atelier „Burgelwood Studios“ in Offenbach am Main he works manly with steel, LED-lights and music. His giant flowers or other objects get their dynamic from the roughness and elegance of welded steel. In his motifs the diversity, beauty and indestructibility of steel is perceptible. Illuminated by LED-lights or just candlelight his sculptures communicate a distinct magic.

Lover’s Flower, which also gives the title for the exhibition is a sculpture of above 3 meters height, forged from steel. From elegant curved foliage three straws rise up to three silver blossoms made from perforated steel.  The straws are flexible like natural reed stems. An LED-light in the bud-like bottom illuminates the sculpture in all spectral colours. Lover’s Flower seems powerful and vulnerable at the same time.

Other objects shown are smaller metal light sculptures like La Giraffe – a table sculpture which is a contemporary reinterpretation of figurative types of Salvatore Dalí in welded steel. All objects are playing with the roughness and elegance of steel as a material.

Geet Robert Chorley who was originally born in Abingdon near Oxford (UK) has his atelier since 1995 in Offenbach am Main. There he works with stainless steel, steel, copper, paper, wood and different light sources. He realized many exhibitions in Germany and abroad. His huge installation Metamorphosis was shown at the Frankfurt Luminale Light festival in 2014.

On the opening and the finissage, the German writer Ingrid Walter will read passages from her recently published novel: „Eine ungeplante Reise nach Wien“ (An Unplanned Journey to Vienna).  Words, metal sculptures, light an music will mix to a magical mixed media show.
